Grand River Dam Authority of Oklahoma improves data acquisition using ELUTIONS iRX wireless router
Tampa, Florida - August 31, 2005 - Grand River Dam Authority, operator of three hydroelectric facilities along the Grand River as well as two coal-fired stations, has recently implemented the ELUTIONS iRX wireless router to replace dated and expensive analog and bag phones to communicate with Power Measurement's (PM) advanced ION electric meters. The iRX allows the PM ION meters to connect to a wireless iDEN backhaul network through the embedded Ethernet port on the ELUTIONS iRX. The iRX can route messaging and create secure VPN data paths on Ethernet, iDEN cellular, 802.11, RS232 serial or USB physical connections.
Using the iRX, Bernie Cooper, Superintendent of Metering, has improved the quality and quantity of the data gathered by GRDA's meters. "We have a very complex and powerful metering system, and the iRX has improved the frequency with which we communicate with our meters allowing real-time data acquisition. This lets us know when we have a problem sooner, helps us get the info to our accounting department quicker, creates powerful information to help GRDA make better informed management decisions, plus saves money. It (iRX) was really easy to use and install. the team from ELUTIONS is just great and has helped me update our system to the latest technology." said Cooper. The iRX is designed to operate in harsh environments for SCADA and telemetry applications like those found at GRDA.
ELUTIONS builds hardware and software to solve real world problems. "We are very happy that we have been able to quickly and easily enhance the GRDA system with a seamless retrofit of their existing network to the iDEN network" said Dana Kinlaw, Senior Director of Integrated Systems. He continued, "the bag phones that are found in the field today are an endless source of problems from a reliability, cost, throughput and maintenance perspective. I'm sure they will be glad they made the conversion to the iRX".
ELUTIONS makes a practice of revitalizing old systems and enhancing new systems though the application of wireless routing, securitization, network and ASP hosted software enhancements.

About Grand River Dam Authority
The Grand River Dam Authority is an agency of the state
of Oklahoma, created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1935
to be a "conservation and reclamation district for
the waters of the Grand River". GRDA fulfills its responsibilities
by operating three hydroelectric facilities, and managing
two lakes, along the Grand River system. These facilities,
along with the GRDA Coal-Fired Complex (thermal generation),
combine for a total generation capability of 1,480 megawatts
(MW). GRDA transmits and delivers this wholesale electricity
across its 24-county service area in Northeast Oklahoma
via a sophisticated energy delivery systems. GRDA sells
electricity to three customer classes: municipals, electric
cooperatives and industries.
