Wizcon for Windows and Internet
Open architectureWizcon provides a comprehensive set of tools for exchanging data with other applications. Database connectivity, custom application generation and data interface standards are all addressed.
WizSQL & ODBC
The Wizcon WizSQL Connection module provides a highly flexible means of
connecting to popular database applications through the Microsoft ODBC
interface. This enables easy configuration of data exchange with other
applications and databases, including Microsoft’s SQL Server, Sybase
and Oracle.
The WizSQL module allows the user to build event-driven SQL or ODBC queries to read data from database tables, as well as write Wizcon real-time and historical data to SQL tables. WizSQL allows the user to define SQL commands with tag values as embedded parameters. Each command is assigned to a trigger that controls when a command will be executed.
In addition to updating user-defined tables, WizSQL allows the user to
retrieve information from common databases and save it in Wizcon’s recipes.
This type of data transfer allows users to send production orders from
business systems directly to the plant floor.
Open APIs for custom program development
The Wizcon Software Developer’s Toolkit (SDK) provides a rich set of APIs,
allowing users to develop customized, event-driven add-on programs in
Visual Basic or C++.
Support for standards through OPC
Wizcon supports the OPC client and server interfaces, allowing Wizcon
applications to instantly connect with a wide variety of available OPC
servers, as well as supply data to OPC clients. As an OPC client, Wizcon
can connect to any OPC server. As an OPC server, Wizcon can supply data
to applications acting as clients. This might be a simple Visual Basic
application written by the user or a commercially available calculation
package. In addition to the OPC support in Wizcon, Wizcon supplies the
most advanced OPC Toolkit that supports OPC data access, as well as alarms
and events.
Wizcon is fully compliant with the OPC Data Access V2.0 standards. Standard
OPC definitions such as server browsing and time stamp support are included.
Wizcon’s support for OPC client and server interface ensures that the
user can connect to any OPC–enabled application.
Dynamic data exchange (DDE)
DDE is a protocol for exchanging data between independent applications.
The applications send updates to each other only when new data is available.
DDE allows users to process data from one application using the tools
of another application. Through Wizcon’s DDE support, users can manipulate
real-time data in common commercial applications, such as spreadsheets,
database systems and statistical packages. Wizcon supports DDE operations
and Block DDE operations as client and/or servers.
Integrates SCADA with other mission-critical information systems
On the Internet side, adherence to industry standards such as HTML for
publishing Web documents and Java for running portable applications enables
Wizcon to easily integrate factory data with corporate-wide information
systems. Users can now combine SCADA with inventory data, production schedules
and order status, giving users a real-time snapshot of the entire enterprise
from one common and familiar interface.
